Child Care (aged 3-5 years)

Step By Step Child Development Society offers enriched, high quality child/family care programs. All of our programs are child focused. We believe that learning should be fun and include all aspects of development. We keep in touch with the trends and needs within our community and with the latest research in childcare. Our goal is to support families in preparing their children for the up and coming years and to build each child’s skills for the future. Staff are experienced Early Childhood Educators. Staff are always upgrading and taking professional development.

We offer a rich program that focuses on kindergarten readiness skills, good problem solving skills, group skills, large and small muscle skills. These are fun based programs with the emphasis on each child in the group. There is a balance on inside and outside play, small and large group games, creative challenges, a balance of busy and quiet play and so much more. Our goals for all children in these programs are:

• That each child leaves here feeling really good about who they are.
• That each child leaves here with an acceptance of others.
• That each child leaves here with an excitement for learning.

Full day childcare spaces are available from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm and are available two, three, four or five days per week all year round, and includes breakfast, lunch and two snacks. Part-time hours are also available starting at 9 am -2:30pm (5.5 hours), running on the school calendar, not available during Pro-D days, Spring Break, Christmas Break or Summer. The 5.5 part day program includes lunch and morning snack.

7:30-8:00am	Arrival activities & centres	The arrival activity is geared toward fine motor activities, sensory, math, science, and literacy.
8:00-8:30am	Breakfast	Hand washing and healthy eating.
8:30-8:50am	Free Play	Centres are art, blocks, discovery, library, imaginary play. Skills and concepts that students are learning are literacy, math, science, art, fine motor, and social skills.
8:50-9:00am	Bathroom and Dress for Outside time	Children are learning self-help skills.
9:00-9:45am	Outside Play	Meet outside in back yard. Various gross motor activities are explored. We use the garden, the backyard, and the playground.
9:45-9:50am	1st group inside to wash hands and read a book	Children are learning self-help skills, and handwashing. Children develop a love of language and reading while they read with the teacher or look at books on their own.
9:50-9:50am	2nd group inside to wash hands and read a book	Children are learning self-help skills, and handwashing. Children develop a love of language and reading while they read with the teacher or look at books on their own.
9:50-10:00am	Greetings/Songs	Message of the day, preparing for the routine.
10:00am	Snack	Hand washing and healthy eating.
10:15-10:30am	Discovery/Collaborate in Focus Groups	Child led investigation
10:30-11:45am	Free Play/Creative Expression	Children learn literacy, math, science, art, sensory, and fine motor skills. These skills are learned through the lens of child-led play.
11:45am-12pm	Clean up/Wash Hands/Circle	Children are learning self-help skills, and handwashing. Children develop a love of language and reading while they read with the teacher or look at books on their own. Children also sing songs and take part in circle time activities.
noon-12:15pm	Lunch	Healthy eating.
12:15-12:25pm	Self-Regulation	Children practice methods of relaxation and self-regulation.
12:25-12:35pm	Table Work	Journals, Letters and Numbers, Science, Baking
12:35-1:30pm	Free Play/Creative Expression	Children learn literacy, math, science, art, sensory, and fine motor skills. These skills are learned through the lens of child-led play.
1:30-1:40pm	Clean up/Movement	Children will be learning about music, rhythm and gross motor skills.
1:40-1:45pm	1st Group goes outside	Children will explore gross motor activities and explore outdoors. We use the garden, the backyard, and the playground.
1:45-1:50pm	2nd Group goes outside	Children will explore gross motor activities and explore outdoors. We use the garden, the backyard, and the playground.
2:00-3:10pm	Outdoor Time	Children will explore gross motor activities and explore outdoors.
3:10-3:25pm	Snack	Hand washing and healthy eating.
3:25-5:15pm	Table activities/Free Play	Puzzles and sensory items are explored. Centres are blocks, discovery, library, and imaginary play. Skills and concepts that students are learning are literacy, math, science, art, fine motor, and social skills.
5:15-5:30pm	Reading Time	Children read with the teacher or look at books on their own.
